Being a blogger, organisation is something I consider myself to be very good at. However, when it comes to the business side of it somehow, I’m not as good as I should be. Business organisation isn’t always something that’s discussed but I’m working on sorting myself out and I’ll be sharing my top tips for staying organised as a blogger or as a business. If you’re looking for more hints and tips for managing your blog and your SEO then check my full list of blogging tips posts. If there’s something you would like me to post about that isn’t there then let me know and I can see what I can do for you.

Lists

I love a good list and these keep me organised, particularly at the moment when I’m planning all my content for when I’m on holiday. It means I can keep tabs on what I’ve done/still to do or what I’m genuinely putting off until the last minute which at the moment is working out a tweet schedule and actually scheduling all the tweets.

Register for Self-Employment/Ltd Company

Whether you’re a blogger or you’re starting a full business being properly registered with HMRC and/or Companies House is something you need to consider straight away. If it’s just you and you’re earning from your blog then self-employed status is fine. If you’re starting a full business which one day may have employees then starting a limited company may be what you need to do. Do your research and choose the one that’s right for you and your circumstances.

Storage of Paper Copies for your Business

As a self-employed blogger, you need to keep records for 6 years and I prefer to keep paper copies of all my invoices and receipts to make them easy to find and usually in date order too to make life easier. The problems start when you have a lot of paper to store. Warehouse Storage Solutions*  offer archive storage which means you can have all your sensitive files stored off-site. While there is a cost for this, in the long run for a business this will be worthwhile as it will keep your office space clear for your up to date files and the ones that you need to hand in. For a larger business which may require warehousing space of some kind, using a firm which specialises may also be of benefit if it’s not something which you’re comfortable with dealing with. Along with keeping paper copies, you may need a photocopier and COS Sales have information on photocopier leasing which may be more affordable for your business.

Should the volume of paper become overwhelming and you need a moving service to help you get the boxes to storage then Chess Move Delivery are who you should be contacting.

I hope some of these tips prove helpful to you and knowing what my brain is like I will probably keep adding to the list which means there will probably be a follow-up post in the near future.
