I’m trying to be more personal with the posts that are on my blog and I realised that I never shared my personal injury story with you all. You may want to make yourself comfortable and grab a drink and snack as I have a feeling this will be a long post. No company names will be used as I’m unsure as to whether I am allowed to name them or not.
Two years ago I had been to visit my doctor and was then on my way into town to meet my bestie on her break as we’d both taken part in the Spring Gift Swap and weirdly we had been given each other to buy for. Normally the bus would be a normal service bus, except on this day it wasn’t. They had sent a coach and although this wouldn’t normally be an issue but this day will forever be burned into my memory. Well, the bits I can remember anyway as some of it is still a blur.
Now this is where my memory starts to fade. All I remember is the parcel shelf that I was sitting under falling off and landing on my head. After this, it’s a bit of a blur but I do remember taking loads of notes as well as swallowing down some painkillers and calling my chiropractor to see if they could fit me in. I did also manage to see my best friend, even if it was a flying visit.
An emergency visit to my chiropractor was later followed by numerous calls to NHS 24 and then a trip to A&E to confirm that nothing was broken and was sent away with a head injury sheet and some painkillers.
The following morning after not getting a lot of sleep, I was adamant that I was making a claim against the company. If only to pay for all the chiropractor appointments I was going to need to get my body back to the way it been after nursing it back to health after my hysterectomy.
I do wish, however, that I’d done some research on the lawyers out there that offer the personal injury services but I didn’t and contacted the one that had been mentioned during one of my Business Law lectures. They did a great job but I do wish I’d done some research before making contact with one specific firm.
When meeting with the lawyer for the first time, it’s a good idea to have all the notes of the incident with you, as well as any other evidence that you may have. Also, be aware that the questions you’ll be asked will feel harsh at the time but they ensure, not only that you’re telling the truth but that nothing has been left out so that they can decide whether you have a case or not.
It’s not a short process and involved many meetings, medicals and emails for signatures, making sure all documents are correct and nothing has been left out.
As well as sharing my story, Slater Gordon personal injury solicitors are creating an ebook all about personal injury, which I’ll be able to share with you all soon.
I didn’t claim because I wanted the money, although it did help pay for our trip to New York. I did it because the company in question failed in their duty of care and as a result, they needed to be aware of what had happened and as a result of the claim they were able to look at their Health and Safety practices. Personal injury claims aren’t just about the money but they can help if a business was at fault and you cannot work.
Do you have a story you would like to share?
