How To Create Your Own Brand

Branding. Unless you’ve done a degree in marketing it can be a hard topic to understand. These days with social media we are all our brand. Then add in bands, teams, and celebrities and that’s a whole lot of branding to navigate.

This post is intended as an easy way to understand how to create your brand and the ways this will benefit you in the long run.

Name

Is your name the same across all your social media platforms? For mine, they are all a version of my blog URL as it is then easy for readers to remember when searching for me on other platforms. Make it something people can remember or at least find when doing an internet search.

Images

The same as using the same name across all my platforms I also try and use the same images. Sites like Twitter and Facebook that allow you to have a profile picture and a cover image keep these consistent across the sites. My profile picture is the same one that is on the blog and then my cover image is my blog header. Yes, I know these won’t fit on all platforms but picmonkey is fab for resizing images so that they will fit.

Merchandise

Merchandise is the catch-all term that I’m applying here to cover a multitude of sins.

For bloggers, that will be business cards (an example of mine is below). I designed mine using Canva and then uploaded to Banana Print and went for the 100 free cards offer. Meant I only needed to pay for postage and there’s blank space on the back in case I need to scribble a note. As you can see I’ve used my blog header image and then kept the rest of the card in keeping with the colour scheme.

For bands or sports teams, t-shirts may be more appropriate. Fire Label create branded t-shirts and polo shirts which can then be used as a method of continuity between the online and offline activities. This is where names and images are important. They need to be the ones that people will then try and search online. There’s the option of screen printing or embroidery with Fire Label which gives you plenty of flexibility.
