Bloggers block is something which, even though I hate to admit it, does strike me regularly. After many failed attempts of trying to write posts even when the words just aren’t there, I created this list of things to do when bloggers block attacks. Corinne from Skinnedcartree recently published a post called Blog Tasks You Can Do When You Have 5 Minutes To Spare which inspired some of the entries on this list but is also a great source of blog-related ideas for when you want to get something done that’s related to your blog but isn’t necessarily getting a post written.
Read other blogs
Being blocked is a great time to read other blogs as you never know where inspiration will come from. It’s also a fab opportunity to clear your unread list from Bloglovin and maybe find some new blogs to follow in the process too.
Read a book
One of the things that I find helps to get me out of a writing slump is reading a good book. By good, I don’t mean the quality of the writing (although that definitely helps), what I mean is a book that helps you to escape and takes your mind off the fact that you can’t get your own words on paper/screen.
Ask for help
I’m incredibly lucky to have a fantastic network of friends/bloggers that I can go to when I need help with a blog idea or in most cases the lack of ideas. Once the overall idea is sorted, the writing of the post becomes a relative breeze in comparison to figuring what angle the post is going to take.
Watch a film/tv
I have a horrible habit of doing things when I’m watching a film or anything on TV for that matter but it’s also bizarrely productive. This is when I catch up with all my emails, have a scroll through Instagram or simply get my tweets scheduled for the following day. They’re all useful and blog-related tasks plus getting to watch something I enjoy at the same time is a big plus.
Blog Admin
I know I sort of covered this above but I’ve also sort of left this heading vague as blog admin means lots of different things for different people. For me, blog admin means updating my WordPress plugins and making sure that everything is working correctly. I also take this opportunity to approve any pending comments and reply to any that require a response.
