Staying Hydrated*

This post is all about I keep my water intake high and hopefully providing a bit of advice too if you’re having trouble staying hydrated throughout the day.

Now those of you who actually know me will know that all I drink is water and tea but sometimes I don’t feel like I’m drinking as much as I should and could do with a way to keep my hydration levels high throughout the day. Being a student this is crucial as it means that hopefully I can learn more and be more alert throughout the day too.

Here a few of my tips for staying hydrated:

  1. Carry a bottle of water with you at all times. Means you’re less likely to buy fizzy drinks if you’re out and about.
  2. Add a slice of cucumber to your water. Really refreshing and gives your water a fresh taste (I’m allergic to citrus but feel free to replace the cucumber with a fruit of your choice).
  3. If you use a step tracker app, some of them will allow you to add your water intake too. This is a good way to know if you are on target for the day.
  4. Keep a bottle next to the bed – I know I get thirsty at night and in the morning and this stops me from having extra cups of tea (shocking I know).

Aqua Pura has also provided a list of the top ten ways to increase your water intake:

  • Begin by finding a brave friend to start this next chapter with you – having some friendly support (and a bit of healthy competition!) should help.
  • Water, water, and more water – An amazing 70% of the body is made up of water, and you need to drink around 6-8 glasses a day to stay hydrated¹.
  • Move it, move it! – Take the stairs, walk to work or even go to a few classes at your local gym.  Find new ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routine.
  • Self-motivate! – Don’t go for a complete lifestyle overhaul on day one – set yourself achievable goals that you can aim for and conquer, changing your routine one step at a time.
  • Eat a good breakfast every day – Try to get up ten minutes earlier in the new year so that you have time to enjoy a healthy breakfast before dashing out of the door.
  • Snack wisely – If you’re feeling a little peckish between mealtimes, grab some unsalted mixed nuts, chopped raw vegetables or dried fruit, and wash it all down with a glass of – you guessed it – water!
  • Enjoy your surroundings – Get to know your local area or reacquaint yourself with nature by going for regular walks.
  • Try something new – As well as cutting out some of your bad habits, introduce some new and exciting recipes and hobbies, and see what works best for you and your lifestyle.
  • Moderation is key – Don’t be so strict on yourself that you ban everything you enjoy, but be sure to stay healthy as much as possible so that you deserve the occasional treat.
  • Tackle things head on – Challenge the negatives in your life and see if you can start the new year without them.

The Important Stuff

More than two-thirds of the human body consists of water and keeping topped up with water helps our body function effectively, from flushing out toxins to aiding digestion. With the unpredictable British weather, it’s hard to know how much water to drink to ensure the right level of hydration, but the European recommendation is at least eight glasses of water per day. Naturally filtered from rocks rich in minerals, Aqua Pura natural mineral water is drawn from the heart of the British countryside. Each bottle is bursting with refreshing taste, giving you the hydration you need to get out there and get active.

Their water is perfect for people who enjoy getting out and about, exploring the great outdoors and trying new things. The Aqua Pura range comes in all shapes and sizes including 330ml to 5 litre bottles, further information can be found at www.aqua-pura.com.
