Smoke Barbecue Glasgow Review*

This review is a bit late in being posted than it should have been. The joys of being ill (nothing to do with the food I’m about to review) and then an exam which meant blog posts were the last thing on my mind.
Warning: this post may cause severe hunger so please proceed with caution.

When I saw on Twitter that Smoke were looking for bloggers in Glasgow to go and try out their food (with a +1 for that matter) there was no way I was turning down the oppotunity to try BBQ and compare it to my favourite Bodean’s in London.

As warned above, if you’re hungry then reading this post may not be a great idea as its making me hungry just thinking about it.

While we were choosing our drinks we were given a glass of popcorn which was coated in the most amazing concoction of garlic, salt, pepper and paprika – or so I’ve been told as I barely got to try any.

Speaking of drinks, I choose a bottle of Freedom Authentic Lager to try which was gorgeously sweet and not too hoppy and I could have drunk a lot more of it. My poor husband however was driving and had to make do with the tasters of beer we were given.
These were:
  • Freedom Organic
  • Smoke American Red – made specially for the restaurant and lovely (apparently)
  • American Saviour
Now for the main event which was a platter piled high with a series of meats (listed below) and sides of pickled ‘slaw and jalapeno corn bread muffin.
  • Pulled pork slider
  • Turkey
  • Sausage
  • St Louis Chicken Thighs
  • Brisket

I will admit there were some items on the platter that my husband didn’t get on well with but that is due to personal taste rather than any issues with the food. I can’t really handle spice and some the flavours were a bit on the strong side for me. The pulled pork though is now on my list of things to go back for a full portion of and my husband had the same thoughts about the pulled pork. Finally something we can agree on!
Just when I thought I’d eaten all I could we were then presented with a selection of desserts. I can’t usually manage dessert after barbecue but on this occasion I managed (all in the interests of an honest review). The items we were given to try were:
  • Chocolate brownie
  • A s’more
  • Cheesecake
  • Ice Cream

The s’more and the brownie were the definite winners on this occasion and I swear we were looking for a bigger portion of both. Next time I visit I need to remember to leave room for dessert. I’m just not a fan of cheesecake so that was never going to be a winner for me but that ice cream was amazing and I would quite like to have a tub of that stuff and a spoon.

Overall, the venue is fab – just look at those washing machine light fittings below – the waiting staff and management were incredibly helpful, especially with my odd allergies and I just can’t wait to go back.

Disclaimer: My husband and I received a free meal for honest feedback and review. All opinions and views are our own and as always I wouldn’t blog about it if I hadn’t loved it.
