After doing a couple of blogging related “how to” posts that show how to write posts and utilise the post settings on the right-hand side of the write post screen.
This post is all about how to best make use of the pages (which you’ll find in the menu underneath posts) and how to add the ones you’be written to the menu bar so they appear at the top of your blog when you are on a desktop computer or from a menu option when viewing on a tablet or phone screen.
So why have pages on your blog as well as posts?
Pages can be a great way of keeping readers on your blog which helps to reduce your bounce rate and also increases the number of pageviews per visit and the duration readers spend on your blog. For example, I have pages which include my disclaimer and a little about me, contact page (with all my links and my email address), advertising and blogger services (coding and the bits that other bloggers maybe need some help with).
Which ones should I use?
Do what feels right for you but at the minimum, I would include a contact page where you give your readers the links to your social media platforms and an email link – using the method displayed in the first post titled how to add to a blog post.
I would also try and include an about me page too as more often than not the people reading your blog may not know anything about you and want to know more about the person who has written the blog. I’ve almagated mine with my disclaimer page as this is what works for me but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.
The main item to include is a home option as you want your readers to be able to navigate to the main page of your blog to then find their way to other pages or blog posts and increase your stats for their visit.
I’ve written the page – what do I do next?
I’m working under the assumption that you’ve found the pages option in the left-hand toolbar and written the page and published it.
Open the layout option from the menu on the left-hand side and then click on add a gadget (this option may be in a different location but you can drag and drop it to the place you would like to be in once you’ve finished). Scroll down the options and click on Pages at which the dialogue box shown below will open.

Once you have this page open click all the pages you would like to show on your blog and then hit save.
Once that box closes also hit Save Arrangement at the top of the layout page to make sure that you don’t lose that little bit of hard work you’ve gone to, to make sure the pages you want show.
In template – Customise – Advanced – you have the ability to change how the font looks for the pages and the widths etc. What I will say is you can’t get anything wrong when you are in that menu and it’s a great way to learn how to change anything to do with your layout and design and nothing is set in stone until you hit apply to blog so you really can try anything and see how it looks before you commit to it.
