Cigala Review

Cigala is a small and cosy restaurant in the Bloomsbury area of London and is fairly non-descript from the outside but don’t let appearances fool you, the food is fabulous. The menu is Spanish and has main dishes, paella and starters/tapas but my digestive system was feeling too happy that day so I stuck to a fairly plain choice that day but my god it was good.

STARTER

As a starter, we chose a platter of cold meats, some bread and oil and Vaughan also had the salt cod fritters with aioli. He wasn’t that keen on the fritters but the aioli was a thing of joy and I had fun dipping my bread in it. The meats were the perfect starter for me, as they were plain but with some flavour which was just what I needed to get my meal started. I nearly asked if I could buy a bottle of the oil but I was scared of the price and whether I could get it home in one piece.

MAIN COURSES

As I said, my body was against me a little bit that day so I went for the steak with chips and churrasco sauce but I was so hungry that I managed to forget to take a picture of it in its entirety. So I apologise that the only picture of my steak is one taken when I’d quite obviously started eating. The steak was cooked the way I’d ordered it and the chips were so good. Turns out due to allergies, I couldn’t eat the sauce but I’ve been assured that it was delicious.

Vaughan opted for the grilled halibut with broccoli and an anchovy cream. I tried some of it too and it was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. It’s one of those dishes that I really want to go back so that I can have a full portion all for myself. I was told that the fish was perfectly cooked and that the broccoli was the perfect accompaniment to the fish.

Can you believe that neither of us wanted dessert as we were both too full? We walked back to the hotel and I relaxed with a cup of tea to warm up.

Overall, this is a restaurant that I would never have found if I hadn’t been going in to review but I’m so glad that I did as I now want to go back when I’m next in London. Hopefully, when I go back my body is being more cooperative and I can try more of the menu.
