Valentine’s Day Traditions

My husband and I have never really celebrated Valentine’s Day. There is a reason behind this and unfortunately, it’s not my story to share but it got me thinking that there are some things I do every year around Valentine’s Day that make me realise I’ve been creating traditions without actually realising it.

Every year on Valentine’s Day I message my best friend AJ to tell her I love her. I don’t have any siblings but she’s the closest the thing to a sister I’ve ever had. We also buy each other just because gifts which I love and reminds me I have something to give to her when I see her next.

My life also revolves around food so it’s one of the times of the year that I always treat myself to something that I wouldn’t usually buy for myself. This year it’s been a copious amount of Ferrero Rocher – I can’t stop eating the damn things.

One thing I have come to establish over the years is that we all have our own traditions when it comes to this day. I plan on spending mine with a good book, my chocolates and an ever refilling cup of tea.

For some people being taken out for a meal or even staying in and cooking a fancy meal. HelloFresh* have done some research and found that 72% of people think that date night is more romantic if their partner cooks for them and I couldn’t agree more. There are some dishes that my husband cooks a lot better than I do and honestly, the only time I eat them is when he cooks them for me. Follow the link to have a look at some more Valentine’s and food-related statistics.

Overall, a Valentine’s tradition can be anything you want it to be and you can do whatever you want. I know I’ll be indulging in my traditions and I hope you can celebrate with yours too.

What are your Valentine’s Day traditions?
