This post was supposed to be live a couple of weeks ago but a combination of work and a missing sample meant that I needed to wait till it arrived.

Christmas Markets

Christmas markets have become an essential part of Christmas for me but I’m not entirely sure when it happened. I love wandering round the stalls and having a pancake or two while I’m there. This year my husband and I did the Christmas tree maze at Edinburgh’s Christmas* and it would have been more fun if he couldn’t see over the tops of the trees! For reference he is 6ft8 so it may have been hard to find enough trees taller than him. The lights in Edinburgh are also spectacular and it’s well worth a visit if you have the time to be able to squeeze it in.

Sending Gifts to Family and Friends

There are some people that I love buying gifts for and I can find the perfect gift really easily but the problem comes when I find that I need to post said gift which means a trek to the post office. I love living in the country but not having a decent post office is one of the most annoying things I can think of. This is why I’m grateful for companies like bakerdays* as I can have a gift of a cake sent to someone else and what’s even better is they make it a size that will fit through a letterbox.

The cake in this picture is a Victoria sponge which has just the right amount of jam and buttercream in the middle to keep the cake moist. However, this is the second cake that I was sent by the company as unfortunately I received a personalised cake of a different flavour which should have been sent to someone else. This wouldn’t have been too bad except it was a flavour that I’m allergic to. The team at bakerdays were fab and even got this cake out to me as a special delivery before they closed for Christmas so that I could get this post out – albeit a little late.

Relaxing with a good book

Working in retail means that time off is rare but I’ve been lucky enough this year to be able to take almost two weeks off over the festive period. This means I can get some reading done and maybe start a reading challenge in the new year. I’m thinking of attempting 52 in 52 next year and putting a small amount of money aside for each book I finish. This is also the perfect time of year to sort your diary for the upcoming year and move over any important dates or info that you need.

Do you have any Christmas traditions?

*Christmas tree maze and food and drinks vouchers were gifted in return for a mention in this blog post.

*Cake was gifted in return for a review but all views and opinions are my own.
