It’s been a hell of a long time since I’ve posted a book review on my blog and it’s not because I haven’t been reading. The problem I’ve had for quite some time is that I’ve been re-reading quite a few old favourites as I haven’t really been in the mood to pick up anything new. However, last week I was on holiday which meant I was in a different mindset and all ready to read something I hadn’t tried before.
How to Bake a New Beginning tells the story of three sisters and a somewhat unplanned trip to Italy which ends up changing all their lives in what feels like the best way. I really don’t want to say much more than that as I think if I did I’d end up telling too much of the story and there’s no fun if you don’t get to read it for yourself. I loved the fact that recipes were included at the start of every chapter and those same dishes were quite often referred to within the story which was a lovely touch. My only criticism would be there were some Italian food terms used that I was unfamiliar with so a footnote explaining what they were would have been handy for me.
Overall, I adored the book and found myself getting totally immersed in the food and the culture of the Amalfi coast. Just make sure when you sit down with this book you have some snacks nearby as it will make you hungry (or at least that’s what it did for me)! Now I just need to find out when the follow up is being released.
