  • What do you do if you have thick hair? Do you have a similar hair care routine to me?

Similar to my full skincare post I decided to do a post about my full hair care routine. I must emphasise that is a hair care routine for anyone that has thick hair and lots of it. Also one of the products I’m using has unfortunately been discontinued by the brand but I’ll link to their shampoo section as they have a great selection of products for all hair types.

As with all my posts of this type I’ve split it into categories to make it a bit easier for you to read.

Washing

I used to have to wash my hair twice to get rid of any dirt or grime but since I switched to this L’Occitane Cherry Blossom shampoo I only need to wash it once. What’s even better is how amazing this shampoo smells. As i stated above this shampoo is no longer for sale but the full range of shampoo on their website is amazing.

I used to use the John Freida Frizz Ease shampoo but I’ve found recently that the formula is making me shed a lot of my hair. I mean I did anyway due to hormones etc. but this made it even worse. I’ve also noticed I have less dandruff since using this shampoo too.

The main tip I have for thick hair is do yourself a favour and do not wash it every day. Dear god, never mind the time it would take to dry and style, it’s actually pretty bad for your hair. Wait until it’s greasy and tells you that it needs washed. I can get a week out of my hair and you can usually tell when it needs washed as that’s when it ends up in a bun.

Styling

I definitely go in for the lazy girl method of styling. I apply the Frizz Ease serum (previously gifted) to damp hair and then comb through. I’ve popped a picture above of how this looks. I’ve been letting my hair dry naturally as it benefits from the lack of heat being used on it. If I don’t have the time to do this then I blow dry my hair. I go for the blast it until it’s dry technique as I then have to straighten it to tame it. Time consuming but necessary.

Straightening is where the Kerastase Taming Milk comes in. I first came across this when I received a miniature in a My Little Box and I’ve been hooked ever since. I even stocked up when I was in France last year as it was so much more affordable to buy there than here. Essentially as this point I start from the bottom up and section my hair using a small amount of the taming milk on each section before straightening.

I use OG GHDs and I don’t think I’ll ever change. They get hot enough to be able to deal with my hair and I love the size of the plates for getting the front of my hair done the way I want it.

That post ended up a lot longer than I expected it to be. Hope you find it helpful and it was written as a collaboration with Hannah from Not Another Blog and she’s written her own hair care post which you should go and check out.
