The people that know me well will realise that learning a new skill isn’t a new thing for me. I’m the person that when I couldn’t find a job decided that going back to uni for four years was the right thing to do and I was right. I’ve always loved learning and being given the opportunity to learn a new skill that I can utilise regularly was a great way to spend my days off from selling currency during a pandemic (yes you read that last bit correctly).
For the past month or so I’ve been learning to code and it’s been an eyeopener for me. The course was a PR experience but all views and opinions are as always my own. Yes, I do know some coding that I’ve learned from running my blog but I’ve always wanted to learn more and this was the perfect opportunity for that.
September is Red Letter Days month of learning and they’re trying to get people to try and learn a new skill they might not have thought of before. I have to admit some of the cookery courses look amazing and a new series of Masterchef Australia always makes me want to flex my culinary muscles but for now, I’ll stick to something closer to my skill set.
The coding for beginners course is run by New Skills Academy and is broken down into various modules starting from the Evolution of Computers all the way through to Reusing code by inheritance, external files, and third-party packages which sounds daunting but by doing the modules in order it’s not as scary as it sounds.
I’ll admit I’ve totally finished the course yet, but that’s because I want to give it as much attention as possible and to be able to take in all the content at my own pace. Although the course isn’t finished yet it is one I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn to code. With the content being split into modules and each module further split into manageable sections it makes the course much easier to understand. At the start of each module, you’re given an estimate of how long the module will take and that’s helpful to me as my time is a bit limited at the moment.
Having worked on this course I’m already looking at all the other options available on the Red Letter Days site. As you can order an e-voucher they also make a great gift for someone too. I really want to give the home photography course a try too as that’s another area that I know I need to work on for my blog and my business.
