Trying New Products: Know Cosmetics & Leighton Denny Perfume

trying new products 1

As a blogger, I love trying new products and finding new brands that I may not have thought of buying before. This happened when I tried shadow switch and it has now become indispensable in my beauty routine. Although I fall in love with some products almost instantly, there will be others that will take a bit longer or I may have an issue which makes liking a product that much harder.

As an asthmatic, I find aerosols really hard to use and because of this I rarely wear perfume but this is something that I would like to change. I was sent four scents by Leighton Denny to try and decided this would be a great idea as they’re small I don’t feel bad about trying one every so often but not using them on a regular basis.

L to R – Desire, Delightful, Original and Lively

I was lucky enough to have been sent the Light and Dark Discovery Selection* which includes four scents each 5ml in size (£28.50 for the bundle of four). My favourite of the four was Delightful (the pink) which smells of red fruits and vanilla and reminded me of a very light version of Angel. It’s the perfect summer scent and I think I will be wearing more of this one. I also really liked Desire (purple) as it had a warming quality to it but I’ll be saving it for December as it felt like a festive scent to me. This along with Lively (green) are both unisex scents and they definitely smell slightly more masculine than Delightful and Original. Lively is very citrusy, which although it didn’t cause a reaction for me (I’m allergic to citrus) was an odd scent to wear as it was a constant reminder of the things I can’t have anymore. Lastly, Original is another warming fragrance and this is provided by the white pepper within it. Unfortunately, the smell of pepper makes me sneeze so this isn’t a good one for me either.

I don’t think anyone will adore all four of the scents but that’s what makes it fun and four to try for the price of some full-size bottles isn’t bad for you to find the one you like. I will definitely be wearing more of Delightful, especially as we start to get warmer weather. Well, a Scottish girl can dream of some sun anyway.

I was also sent two products by Know Cosmetics to try out which I was really excited about but unfortunately, that’s where my excitement ended. The concealer* (£15.00 from Superdrug) in Pizazz is a perfect match for my skin tone and applies with a brush which is similar to my much loved Touche Eclat. The issue with it is I just couldn’t get past the smell and it’s the only issue that I had with the product but the scent is a big factor for me when it comes to products. It was a very chemically scent and it made me feel a bit sick when I tried it. Other than that this product is great but I’m unlikely to use it on a regular basis.

I was also sent the lip plumper* (£15 from Superdrug) which I did try but I’m not entirely sure that my lips need any more plumping. It’s a fab product and can be used as a plain lipgloss which means you can wear it at any time really. It does have a tingly sensation which I found uncomfortable but that’s because if I’m having a reaction to something it tingles and my brain sends me messages that I really should be getting it off my face pronto.

Overall, I’ve been loving trying new products and finding new items that will join my collection. I just wish I loved the concealer as much as I feel I should, but we can’t have everything.
