2016 Goals Update

I haven’t written an update post in a while and thought this would be a great opportunity to share where I am with achieving the goals I set for myself at the start of this year and by the end of the post, there may even be a few more added too. This is also my first post since I moved from blogger to self-hosted WordPress but you can read more about that in the post itself.

Post at least once a week
Now, this I didn’t manage to achieve and it wasn;t through lack of trying. Basically, life got the way and unfortunately so did bloggers block. It still pops up every so often and I don’t like to force the words if they’re not there.

Post my “Can’t Live Without” once a month
This one I haven’t quite managed which is a shame because I really loved writing them but I felt I was over thinking the post and it looks like this is a series which may go off quietly and may be resurrected from time to time.

Charge a small amount for blog advertising
I am charging for advertising space on my blog but it hasn’t taken off in the way I would have liked. Although on that note if you would like to advertise with me you can check all that’s on offer on my advertising page.

Make the move to self-hosted WordPress
Now at one point I was dead set on never doing this and staying on blogger for the rest of time but then something in my head clicked. A lot of the vacancies I have seen for social media positions have specified that the candidate must be able to use WordPress. I then had a lightbulb moment and decided that now was the best time to make the change. Before I start a new year at uni where I’ll be writing a dissertation and doing an advanced module in digital marketing. I can update my CV to reflect everything I’ve learnt and I can take some time to get used to the new layout and how everything works.

Reach 250 Instagram followers
I achieved this target in April 2016, and I couldn’t be more proud. Since buying an Olympus pen and being given the 45mm (dream) lens for my birthday I do feel the quality of my photos has improved dramatically. The camera and having a new photo set up that makes the most of the natural light is how I get fantastic images like the one below.

Reach 250 Facebook followers
As of today, I am 210 but it’s been that way for quite some time so I’m not sure if this one achievable or not. I never know, by the end of 2016 I may have smashed straight through it.

Reach 250 Bloglovin followers
Growth on Bloglovin has been particularly slow but I’m now at 231 so I’m only 19 away which isn’t bad going and if my follower numbers increase at the same rate then I should 250 in no time.

Only post content I want to post
This is something I have always done and will be sticking to. It’s one of the reasons I have a disclaimer on my blog and why if I post a review that I want to do it’s because I genuinely the product or place that I’m blogging about.

Always have an image for a blog post
Now I’ve made the switch to self-hosted WordPress having an image for every post is more important than ever as I’m making use of the featured image setting which puts my image of choice at the top of every post and is then used as the thumbnail image for the post in related posts etc.

Reach 2000 twitter followers
It’s August and I have 1,470 followers so I’m well on the way to achieving my goal this year. If you’re reading this and you’re also on Twitter but don’t follow me you can do so by clicking here.

My other goals for 2016 basically include teaching myself everything I need to know about being self-hosted and making the most of my last year at university and using my dissertation to prove that I am capable of going into the job that I want to do.

Do you have goals for this year? Any I can help with?
Why not leave me a comment or you’ll probably find me on Twitter.
