International Literacy Day: My Favourites

international literacy day

Today is International Literacy Day and thanks to a new job, a dodgy laptop and a need for sleep it’s taken me longer than is honestly necessary to write this post. Viking were kind enough to send me a bundle of goodies to help me write this post. That would have helped if I’d had the time to play with them. The calligraphy set looks amazing and makes me feel like I’m at Hogwarts everytime I look at it. There was also a plain tote bag in the box which I can decorate with the fabric paint but I kind of like the fact it’s totally plain and not advertising anything when I walk down the street.

I decided with it being International Literacy Day that I would have a bit of a recap of some of my book posts and my favourite titles that are in my collection.

I feel like I am part Winnie the Pooh and I am honestly ok with this. It’s a series of books that I was read as a child and still love to this day. I have quite strong opinions about the original illustrations compared to the Disney versions and even bought the Winnie the Pooh cookbook when I was in a charity shop last week as I felt we needed it in our collection.

One of my all time favourite posts to write was this one all about my favourite books but it was a bit of a challenge to narrow it down to the few that I did. I also may have cheated a little by selecting two series of books instead of single ones.  Of course, Alice in Wonderland would be on the list as well as Harry Potter but I also like the fact that there are what feels like a couple of lesser known titles in there and Jekyll and Hyde which can be considered to be a literary classic. This picture also illustrates the mixture of books that I read and that I pretty much will read absolutely anything.

This was just a little peek into my favourite books and made me realise how much I love blogging about books which means that I’m going to try and make more of an effort to share the books I’ve been reading on the blog as well as the growing size of my to be read list.

I’d love to know what your favourite books are and the meaning International Literacy Day holds for you.
