Travel to Middle-Earth this Christmas

Christmas is a time of year for watching movies and being transported to extraordinary places and for escapism. I don’t watch many Christmas films but you can find out two of my favourites in a post by AJ of AJ Loves. Now for a confession….. My favourite films to watch at this time of year are the ones featuring the Middle-Earth world created by Tolkien.

Both the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy are my go-to films for when I need to escape to another world and when I think I’ve watched Harry Potter one too many times. Yes, I have read all the books but I find the movies much easier to watch and understand the story and what’s happening. Although don’t get my husband started on there being elves at Helms Deep in The Two Towers. All I’ll say is it didn’t happen that way in the book but I understand why they’ve been added to that particular sequence. Although I also annoy him but quoting certain portions of the movies and I do believe I may have seen them one too many times.

While I do have several copies of these movies I always have house room for more. This year a 6-disc set of all Middle-Earth movies was released and I swear I need it in my collection. You can buy it from HMV for £29.99 which I think is excellent value for a six movie collection. The link actually takes you to a whole selection of movies and now I’ve had a browse through it, I think there may be a few last minute entries on my gift list for this year.

Will you be heading to Middle-Earth this Christmas or do you have movies you always watch at Christmas?
