How To – Start a Bullet Journal*

Having seen various blog posts about bullet journals I felt it was high time I started my own one. I was kindly gifted the notebook I would need – in this case the Leuchtturm lined notebook in Royal Blue (£13.50)- and the Lamy Logo Ballpoint pen (£4.90) also in a matching shade of blue both from Bureau Direct.

For me the biggest challenge was deciding which sections to use of the official bullet journal approach. What I actually found was, the whole point of a bullet journal is to figure out what works for you and which of the sections will be most beneficial for you over a long period of time.

As you’ll see in the pic below, I went with an Index which is vital so you know where everything is, a monthly log with a day by day calendar and a tasks list. The future log so I can pop in any appointments or important dates (like birthdays) and a section that will be for helping me plan blog posts and keep all my blog info under control.

The other thing I love about bullet journals is being able to make it your own and the best way to do this is with the use of stickers. I pulled out my blogger stickers from the winter box of lame by That Lame Company and I also purchased some from Jemma’s (Dorkface) Etsy shop which will give my bullet journal a much needed touch of colour.

Basically, what I’ve established is that there is no right or wrong way to start a bullet journal. By all means follow the various guides which are online but what’s also important is making sure it will work for you as that’s sort of the whole point of the system.

Do you have a bullet journal and have some tips to share with me? Leave me a comment or you’ll find me on Twitter.

Disclaimer: I was gifted two products in exchange for a post.
