I posted back in January that I was starting my own reading challenge and it’s definitely been keeping me on my toes. I do tend to read a lot anyway but sometimes I re-read a lot of books. This year I made myself a promise to to only re-read books I haven’t read in the past year and to read more new books too. This is my check-in for the first quarter and to try and keep myself accountable for the number of books I’m reading this year.
I set myself the challenge of reading 50 books in a year and I think it’s achievable considering that I have a two week holiday in France and a kindle to take with me. So far I’ve managed 17 books and I’m halfway through my 18th. Even if I make it to the full 50 before the end of the year I’ll keep updating my Goodreads page with the info of all the books I’ve read this year.
Books 1-5

My first 5 books
Yes, I jumped on the You bandwagon after watching the show and this is where I will say that the book is definitely better. I’m interested to see how they do the second book (apparently it’s in development) and I’m hoping for another book after the way Hidden Bodies was left. I also needed another Good Omens re-read and the Melody Malone is a must-read for any Doctor Who fan!
Books 6-15

I had a very large Gail Carriger re-read this year and it was much needed. They are two series of stories that once you start you just find the need to keep going. They’re set in Victorian steampunk London and are so much fun. The Finishing School series is so much fun as it’s no average school – it’s on board an airship. This is also technically a prequel to the
Books 16 & 17

The last two books of the quarter are the latest in the Alexandra Cooper series of books and was one that I’d had on pre-order for quite some time. I also decided to re-read the Infernal Devices Shadowhunter books as I’d tried to remember part of the plot when I was watching the show but it just wouldn’t come to mind. The bit I need is in book 3 so obviously I’ve started with book one and will get there eventually. They are mammoth reads so if you do decide to give them a try then I recommend kindle as the books are too heavy for me to hold.
I’m hoping to fit in a bit more reading during April, May and June as I have more time off work to have the time to curl up with a book. Although if I blogged less then I’d be able to read more!
