I’ve been asked quite a lot recently about not only the volunteering that I do but also why I do it and figured the easiest way to explain this was with a blog post.

The charity I volunteer for Angel Wings and you can find out more about who they are and what they do in this awareness post I wrote last year.

When it comes to my role for the charity, I actually do quite a few bits and pieces here and there, but the biggest is the organisation of the (now annual) masquerade ball. I say, now annual, because every year we say it’s the last one and then a couple of weeks after the event we arrange the next one. I take care of the ticket sales and making sure we have correct numbers, as well as sourcing raffle prizes for on the night too. So far I’ve some incredibly generous donations which I’m hoping will raise quite a bit this year. One of the other fun things when organising an event is finding vendors too. This can be everything from sweetie carts to photographers or why not go one step further and hire Reflected Memories who supply Photo Booth rental.

The reason I volunteer for this charity in particular, is due to the fact that I’ve seen the pain a miscarriage can cause and by raising money and providing cuddle cots, we can help parents spend time with a child which they otherwise would not have had. I also provide support for women who have been told they can no longer have children or have been through a hysterectomy as I can share my experience and how I coped with them which may provide some relief.

I feel doing work for charity is important but this can be as simple as an RT of a post on a Twitter, sharing an update or status on Facebook or just popping some change in a charity pot. I admire the people that do a lot more than I do too. Equally, if there’s more than one charity you support or just one that means a lot that’s ok too. I have others that mean a lot to me but would have me in tears if I tried to add them to this post. Basically, in my opinion every little helps when it comes to charities and I’m happy I can use my skills to help others.

Below is a video for Christian Aid Big Brekkie 2017 which is a fundraising event being held with the idea of bringing friends and family together in order to raise money for Christain Aid. If you click the link you’ll find all the info you need to be able to hold a fundraiser yourself and raise money to help show love for people living in poverty and suffering injustice around the world.

Hope you enjoyed finding out about the volunteering I do and why.
