The spending money was gifted by Hotels.com, but all views are my own.
Living in Glasgow, we often have the odd day trip to Edinburgh even if the last one was last year. Although there are plenty of hotels in Edinburgh, we find that it’s just as easy to get in the car and drive over there for the day. When we went this time, instead of trying to find parking in the city centre (which can be hell) we parked at Ingliston and used the tram.
I love the tram as it gets you into the heart of the city centre quickly and for a great price. It was £3.20 each for our return and that includes the cost of parking the car.
Taking in the Sights
The one thing that I love to do when I’m in Edinburgh is just take a walk and take in the architecture. It really is beautiful and we were very lucky with the weather when we went. Even if it’s always full of tourists there is just something I love about walking down the Royal Mile and wandering in and out of cashmere shops.
We also had a wander around the new town too. The buildings there always remind me of the West End of Glasgow which is probably why I love it so much there.
Food and Drink

Our first stop the morning was the Chocolate Lounge on the top floor of Harvey Nichols. It’s hidden away and nice and quiet compared to some of the cafes that we walked past on Cockburn Street on the way there. We kind of ended up there by accident but it was a happy one.

We split a cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel and I had my first cup of tea of the day. I didn’t get a chance to get one before we left and I needed something that could vaguely be described as breakfast.
For lunch, we ended up in The Refinery which is on St. Andrew Square. It’s one of the few places that we checked the menu of that I could find something to eat without worrying about having an allergic reaction.

We started with some bread and oil with balsamic which is one of my favourite ways to start a meal. This was to help keep the hunger at bay until we could decide on what we wanted as our main meals.
I went for the D&M burger which is a beef burger with Applewood cheese and my god it was good. It was in a brioche bun and came with a side of fries which were perfectly crispy. My husband went for the salmon with peas, bacon and cream and a side of minted new potatoes. It looked amazing and I was told it was (I never got to try any of it).

Thank god the restaurant we chose was close to a tram stop. I ate so much that I pretty much needed to be rolled onto the tram to make the journey back to Glasgow.
Although we didn’t do much, it was just nice to get out and about with my husband and my camera. I didn’t come back with any photos of myself as I’ve not really been feeling it recently but hopefully, I can some amazing outfit shots on holiday.
